Glenn Maxwell played an incredible knock and helped Australia to win the match against India in the third T20I in Guwahati. The knock helped Australia to stay alive in the series. A brilliant knock from Ruturaj Gaikwad went in vain, as India could not defend 223 runs. It led to the highest run chase against India by a team in T20Is, which was a sensational achievement from Australia.

43 runs were required in the last 2 overs when Suryakumar Yadav handed over the ball to Axar Patel, which was a bad move. They overturned the tide towards Australia, who reached a step closer towards win. Australia pulled off the incredible chase in the last over, as Prasidh bowled the most expensive spell by an Indian pacer in T20Is, conceding 68 runs in his 4 overs.

After the match, Matthew Wade appeared in the post-match conference. The Australian captain was in good spirits after the team’s win. When asked about the knock of Maxwell, Wade said that it was a brilliant knock from Maxwell. The Australian batter said that he was confident about the team’s chances till the 19th over of the match where they had India around 190/3.

‘Maxi probably wouldn’t have got a 100 if he didn’t toss up 30 in that over’ – Matthew Wade

“Wouldn’t say I was confident; I was a bit grumpy going in at the halfway mark. Thought we were in the game at 190 after the 19th over but the last over went for 30. Richardson hurt himself so I was one over short,” said Wade. The Australian WK batter said that Richardson’s injury led to him asking Maxwell to complete the 20th over, which went for 30 runs to change the momentum towards for India.

Wade further jokingly added that Maxwell would not have scored a hundred, had he not conceded 30 runs in his last over as a bowler. “He played brilliantly, got a 100 in his 100th T20I. All in good fun in the end, Maxi probably wouldn’t have got a 100 if he didn’t toss-up 30 in that over. The boys are in good spirits, hopefully, we can pinch another one in the next game and take it down to the last game,” added Wade.
