Suryakumar Yadav surprised at lack of media turnout for pre match conference of first T20I against Australia
Suryakumar Yadav was surprised by the lack of turnout of the media people for the pre-match conference between India and Australia for the first T20I. After a tiring season in the ODI World Cup 2023, it seemed as if even the reporters wanted some rest like the players. As a result, only two reporters were in the press conference for the first T20I in Vishakhapatnam.
The Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav saw the lack of turnout and said, “Only two people?” It is such a surprise that only two reporters were in the hall, given how crazy cricket as a spoThe media India is. The media always cares about cricket t and reporting captain’s opinions always gains the attention of the viewers. It was surprising that the turnout was way too low, compared to that during the ODI World Cup 2023.
For the big tournament, there was a huge media turnout. For the Indian matches, the number of reporters easily crossed 100. In some of the games like the semifinal and the final, the number had crossed 200 as well. Compared to such huge numbers, 2 is very low. The reason behind the lack of turnout seems to be the burnout after the big tournament and lack of relevance for the T20I series.
Lack of star players in the Indian T20I squad
India is playing without big names like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami, and many other key players. Only Suryakumar, Prasidh Krishna, and Ishan Kishan are from the Indian squad that took part in the ODI World Cup 2023. Hence, the relevance of the first match of the series is not much, given that the final of the big tournament happened just 4 days back.
Interestingly, the Australian captain Matthew Wade skipped the pre-match conference due to a lack of media turnout. India will be playing the five matches in the series against Australia in Vishakhapatnam, Trivandrum, Guwahati, Raipur, and Bengaluru respectively. Shreyas Iyer is set to join the Indian squad for the last two matches of the series.
