The 6th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 was played between New Zealand and Netherlands at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on October 9. The Blackcaps displayed an amazing all-round performance and clinched their second win of the tournament by defeating the Dutch by 99 runs.

Talking about the match, the Netherlands won the toss and elected to field first. Devon Conway and Will Young gave a brilliant start to the Blackcaps as they stitched a 67-run stand for the first wicket. Roelof van der Merwe provided the first breakthrough in the 13th over.

Opener Will Young played a brilliant knock of 70 runs which included 7 fours and 2 sixes and stitched a 77-run stand with Rachin Ravindra. With the help of collective contribution from the middle-order batters, Blackcaps achieved a monumental total of 322 runs. New Zealand skipper Tom Latham also smashed his half-century and contributed 53 runs to the scoreboard.

Mitchell Santner played a quick cameo in the end by smashing 36 runs off just 17 balls which included 3 fours and 2 sixes. Aryan Dutt, Paul van Meekeren and van der Merwe picked up 2 wickets each for the Netherlands.

Chasing the target, the Dutch suffered an early setback as Matt Henry dismissed Vikramjit Singh in the 6th over. The upcoming batters got the start but none of them could convert it into a big knock. Colin Ackermann was batting pretty well but didn’t get the support from any other batters.

Ackermann scored 69 runs which included 5 fours but Santner was better than anyone as he picked up 5 wickets in the match and dismantled Netherlands’ middle order completely. Trent Boult didn’t pick any wickets but was very economical and put pressure on the Dutch batters. Santner’s brilliant bowing helped the Kiwis to win the match by 99 runs.
