The ongoing clash between India and Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 saw a dramatic turn of events at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai when the popular English pitch invader ‘Jarvo 69’ invaded the pitch during the first innings of the match.

However, what caught the most attention was that former Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli took matters into his own hands as he escorted Jarvo off the field. The invader has gained notoriety for his repeated attempts to enter cricket matches uninvited. However, such incidents keep the fans entertained and involved in the match but these things are not good for the players who get distracted.

The incident occurred during the initial moment of the first innings but not once, Jarvo invaded the pitch twice which tells that the security services in Chennai have embarrassingly failed. ‘Jarvo 69’ managed to breach security and made his way onto the pitch. As he attempted to run towards the wicket, Kohli calmly intercepted him and escorted him off the field with the security staff, showcasing his composure.

The incident highlighted the importance of maintaining security measures at sporting events to ensure the safety of players and spectators. ‘Jarvo 69’ has a history of pitch invading, having previously attempted to participate in various cricket matches, including the England-India series. While his antics may amuse some, they underscore the need for stringent security protocols to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

Coming to the match, Australia won the toss and elected to bat first, however, Jasprit Bumrah provided the first breakthrough for India as he dismissed Mitchell Marsh in the 3rd over of the first innings with Kohli taking a brilliant catch at the slips. Later, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne steadied the ship. But it was, Kuldeep Yadav who broke the crucial partnership. Australia are 101/2 at the time of writing.
