Know about Akash Deep’s journey amid family tragedy, father wanted him to go for government job

Bengal pacer Akash Deep has made his Test debut for India in the ongoing fourth Test against England in Ranchi. Before making his India debut, he played 30 first-class games for his state team, picking 104 wickets. A couple of years back, he was picked by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the IPL 2022. Akash continues to be part of the team.

Meanwhile, the Bengal player’s journey has been much short of being smooth. In his early days, his father wanted him to pursue government jobs as they provide stability in income and job security. However, the right-arm pacer wanted to play the game and was discouraged by his father. His father wanted him to attend the Bihar police constable’s exams or at least try for the state government’s Class IV staff peon job.

Despite all of this, he left for Durgapur with the pretext of finding a job and was eventually supported by one of his uncles. Before the Bihar-born player could progress in the game, his father died of a stroke, followed by his elder brother. His father left behind, Akash as well as two sisters in their family. and making Akash the immediate breadwinner in his family. This meant that the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL had to leave playing the game.

For the next three years, he didn’t play the game but eventually moved back to Durgapur, followed by his departure for Kolkata. Akash then joined the Bengal Under-23 team and made his debut in 2019.

Meanwhile, fast forward to the ongoing fourth Test, the 27-year-old started the game with a wicket in his second over, only to find out he overstepped. However, a few overs later, he managed to pick his maiden wicket in the form of Ben Duckett. Two balls later, Ollie Pope was trapped lbw, followed by the wicket of Zak Crawley in another over. At the time of writing, England is 112/4 with only a few minutes into the Lunch break.
