Before the series against South Africa, young cricketer Ishan Kishan withdrew from the Indian team citing mental exhaustion. Although the team management granted him leave, Kishan has not yet made himself eligible for selection. Reports suggest that he was displeased with Jitesh Sharma’s inclusion in the T20Is, which could potentially jeopardize his spot in the playing XI.

In the meantime, Kishan has been absent from Jharkhand’s Ranji Trophy matches. Instead, he is training alongside Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya at the Reliance Stadium in Baroda. It’s highly probable that he will make his comeback during the Indian Premier League. Presently, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma appear to be the preferred opening pair for India, followed by Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav.

This setup leaves Ishan Kishan with no spot in the top order, prompting the team management to support Jitesh, who can provide explosive performances lower down the lineup. According to RevSportz, Kishan expressed discontent with this decision and considered removing himself from the squad. This is also after team management previously planning to use Kishan lower down the order in 50 overs format.

The wait for Kishan extends after Jitesh’s performance

On the other hand, Jitesh has performed admirably in the few chances he’s had. His wicketkeeping abilities are also noteworthy as he aims to secure his spot for the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to commence on June 1. However, achieving that goal will require an exceptional season for Punjab Kings in the IPL.

Despite his commendable performance in the previous edition, Jitesh will face stiff competition from the likes of KL Rahul and Kishan for a place in the team. India head coach Rahul Dravid has affirmed that Kishan will not be under consideration for the remaining three Test matches against England. This decision stems from his absence in professional cricket since departing South Africa. It is also one of indication about the thought process of the team management as well as selection committee for the upcoming 50 overs World Cup.
