MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings will face Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals in Match 17 of IPL 2023 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai today.

RR started off with a victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad but lost to Punjab Kings in their next match.

However, they made a superb comeback to thrash Delhi Capitals. As their margins in both their victories were huge, their net run rate is the best in the competition at +2.067.

CSK lost to Gujarat Titans in the season opener.

However, they beat Lucknow Supergiants and Mumbai Indians in their next two matches.

CSK are placed fifth on the points table with a tally of 4 points and a net run rate of +0.356.

Jos Buttler has been in good form for the Royals this season, scoring 152 runs in three matches. He is averaging 50.67 this season with a strike rate of 180.95.

For CSK, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been the standout batter with 189 runs in three matches, including two fifties.

Moeen Ali will return to the side after missing the previous game against Mumbai Indians.

In his last match at Chepauk, Mooen picked up four wickets. He is also a brilliant player of spin with an IPL strike rate of 143.81.

CSK’s biggest match-winner is Ravindra Jadeja who bagged a player-of-the-match award against the Mumbai Indians. He has four wickets in three matches, including a three wicket haul against MI.

Unfortunately, Deepak Chahar is not available for Chennai Super Kings.

Their two Sri Lankan cricketers, Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana missed the opening few games of IPL 2023 because of commitments to the national cricket team.

Both have arrived at the training facility but aren’t expected to play.

The wicket at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is a sporting wicket but favours the spinners.

Any score in the region of 160+ can be a competitive total.

Either skipper winning the toss may elect to bowl first.

For CSK, Rahane’s return to form is brilliant news while they can rely on proven performers like Jadeja, Mooen and Santner.

Ashwin, known for his exceptional spinner skills and vital contributions with the bat, leaves behind a legacy that will inspire generations of cricketers.

The 37-year-old debuted in 2011 and quickly became a pivotal figure in Indian cricket. Over the years, Ravichandran Ashwin’s amassed an impressive 489 Test wickets, second only to Anil Kumble in India’s all-time rankings. His ability to adapt to different conditions and outsmart some of the best batsmen in the world earned him accolades across all formats.

Ashwin’s retirement marks the end of an era in Indian cricket. His sharp mind and innovative bowling strategies often made the difference in crucial matches, particularly in Tests. Besides his bowling prowess, Ashwin contributed significantly as a lower-order batsman, scoring five Test centuries.

“This will be my last day as an Indian cricket in all formats of the game at the international level. I do feel there is a bit of punch left in me in a cricketer. I would like to showcase that in club-level cricket. So this will be my last day. I have had a lot of fun. I must say I’ve created a lot of memories alongside Rohitt and several of my teammates,” Ashwin said at the press conference.

“Obviously, there are a lot of people to thank. But, I would be failing in my duty if I didn’t thank the BCCI and the rest of my teammates. I want to name a few of them and all the coaches — Rohit, Virat, Ajinkya, and Pujara who have taken all those catches in the slips to help me get those wickets.”

Ashwin also thanked the Australian cricket team for being fierce competitors over the years.

“Also a big thank you to the Australian cricket team. They have been very fierce competitors. I have enjoyed playing alongside them.

“I won’t be taking any questions, but certainly, it’s a very emotional moment.”

Ashwin ensured the rumors did not stay for long as he confirmed the call right after the third Test ended in a draw.

Fans and analysts have taken issue with Gambhir’s critique, especially in light of Ravindra Jadeja’s remarkable achievements that position him among the game’s elite players.

Ravindra Jadeja, the ICC’s No. 1-ranked all-rounder, boasts impressive statistics that surpass even some of cricket’s legends, including Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, in certain contexts.
