After India’s heartbreaking 6-wicket loss to Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 final, the Indian Cricket Board is now set to discuss the future plans for the team with chief selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Rohit Sharma. Both Agarkar and Rohit had done a decent job till now in their role.

Talking about Rohit, many speculated that the right-handed batter might consider retiring from international cricket post-ODI World Cup 2023. However, nothing like that has happened as of now. But the sources are suggesting that Rohit is fine not being considered as the captain in the shortest format.

“Before the ODI World Cup, Rohit had communicated that he is fine not being considered for T20Is. The selectors have been investing heavily in youth in T20Is for the last one year. With the T20 World Cup happening in June next year, they are reluctant to deviate from that strategy.” an Indian Cricket Board source was quoted as saying by Cricket One.

Suryakumar Yadav will lead India in upcoming T20I series against Australia

Rohit had a brilliant World Cup campaign both with the bat and his captaincy. He led the team in 10 consecutive victories while also scoring 597 runs with the bat in 11 innings. However, what was more important was the intent he showed throughout the tournament. He helped India to get a blazing start which set the foundation for a big total in almost every match they played.

India’s first assignment after the recently concluded World Cup will be the 5-match T20I series against Australia which is set to begin on Thursday, November 23 and will be concluded on December 3. India’s star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is likely to be named as India’s next captain in the T20I format. However, with Hardik being injured, the captaincy role has been given to the no. 1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav for the series against India. Ruturaj Gaikwad will serve as the vice-captain of the team.
