Mitchell Starc was seen wearing a black armband in the ODI World Cup final 2023 against India at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. It was not observed by many, as the focus was on the performances of Travis Head and Pat Cummins in the match. But Starc performed very well in the match, as he returned with figures of 3/55 in his 10 overs in the big match.

After the final, Starc was in the news for something apart from his performance in the match. The left-arm pacer was seen wearing a black armband with the initials PH on it. During the post-match conference, it was observed that Starc was wearing the special armband, which was not worn by other players. When enquired about the same, it was revealed that the armband was a tribute to Phil Hughes.

Hughes was one of the most unfortunate cricketers, who had to die while playing on the cricket field. In a Sheffield Shield match, Hughes was hit by a bouncer from Sean Abbott. The blow was so impactful that Hughes went unconscious straightaway and breathed his last a few hours after the impact. It was a black day for cricket, as the entire world mourned the death of the former Australian cricketer.

Starc happens to be one such cricketer, who remembered Hughes. Hence, Starc decided to play the final against India by wearing a black armband with the initial PH in it. the gesture of Starc is commanding respect from the fans.

Australia created a record in Ahmedabad, as they became the only to win 6 ODI World Cups. Starc has been a part of two such wins. In 2015, Starc was at his absolute best and claimed wickets for fun in the campaign of Australia which they won. In 2019, Starc was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament, although they could not win it.
