Towards the end of the third day of the Rajkot Test between India and England, Yashasvi Jaiswal returned to the pavilion after getting retired hurt. Before doing so, the Indian opener impressed the fans with his batting performance. The star batter scored his third Test hundred and took the game away from the visiting side. In his stay in the middle, Jaiswal scored 104 runs.

Most of them came in the third session where he smashed the likes of Mark Wood, James Anderson, Rehan Ahmed, Joe Root, and Tom Hartley for fun. The visiting side looked clueless as the Southpaw attacked the bowlers with full intent and looked for runs. In the first 40 balls, Jaiswal scored only 10 runs. But he blasted the bowlers for fun in the last session.

However, after getting to a hundred, Jaiswal looked uncomfortable and called the physio for help a couple of times. It looked like Yashasvi suffered from pain in the lower back. Jaiswal did try to bat for an over against Hartley but ended up defending all the balls including a full toss. After feeling the discomfort to bat, Jaiswal decided to get retired hurt.

Can Yashasvi Jaiswal return to bat?

The rule suggests that a batter can retire and hurt himself due to illness, unavoidable cause or an injury. “If a batsman retires because of illness, injury or any other unavoidable cause, that batsman is entitled to resume his innings. If for any reason this does not happen, that batsman is to be recorded as ‘Retired – not out,” states the rule of the game. The Rajasthan Royals batter can still come out to bat.

According to the rules, only if a wicket falls from here or if a batter gets retired hurt or retired out, can Jaiswal return to bat. It is to be seen if India would need him to bat again from this stage, as there is a good chance of the home side getting a good score on the board even without his contribution from here further.
