Afghanistan series – a passage for Samson to T20 World Cup squad

Sanju Samson has a major task ahead of him, but a great platform for him to prove his mettle ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Since his debut in 2015, he has been playing hide-and-seek hiding in the Indian team. Despite his consistent performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the right-hander did not get enough opportunities in the national team.

He was going to end 2023 on a poor note but managed to turn it around with a maiden ODI century against South Africa. His fortunes seem to have changed as he has been selected for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan starting on January 11. Samson was selected ahead of Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul. If the 29-year-old can perform well, he could make a big statement ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

India squad for T20I series against Afghanistan: Rohit Sharma (C), S Gill, Y Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, W Sundar, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar.
