LSG grab ‘Gabba hero’ as replacement of Mark Wood for IPL 2024

LSG is all set to grab a star pacer for their lineup in the IPL 2024. Mark Wood is set to miss the IPL 2024 due to unknown reasons. As a result, LSG was forced to bring in a replacement for their squad. The Lucknow-based franchise has gone with ‘Gabba hero’ as a replacement for Wood for IPL 2024. It is none other than the West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph. 

The right-arm pacer has made a name for himself in the recently concluded Test series against Australia. The quick bowler operated at over 145 kmph consistently and had a brilliant seam position. He got the ball to bounce higher than usual. In the match against Australia at the Gabba, Joseph picked seven wickets while defending 216 runs on the board. For the first time since 1997, WI won a Test match in Australia.

The official handle of the IPL claimed about the replacement in their statement. In their statement, it was revealed that Joseph would play for INR 3 crores for LSG in the IPL 2024. “Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) named Shamar Joseph as a replacement for pacer Mark Wood for the upcoming edition of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Joseph will join LSG for INR 3 Crore,” claimed the statement.

It was further revealed that Joseph would be on his maiden stint in the IPL. The statement then talked about Joseph’s performance at The Gabba. “The speedster was recently at the forefront during West Indies’ Test win at the Gabba. He picked 7 wickets in the 2nd innings to script a historic win in Australia for West Indies. This will be Joseph’s first stint in the IPL,” added the statement. 

Shamar was impressive in the series against Australia. He claimed 13 wickets in the series in three innings. His maiden wicket was Steve Smith at Adelaide. Joseph displayed a sensational fighting spirit at Gabba. Despite suffering a toe injury in the match, Joseph decided to bowl for his team. The 24-year-old shined with the ball as he claimed seven wickets despite being in pain.
