Australia’s star opening batter, David Warner, is gearing up for his farewell Test series against Pakistan, slated to commence on December 14 and conclude with the final match on January 3. However, George Bailey, Australia’s chief selector, has indicated that Warner’s performance in the initial Test will determine his participation in the farewell Test in Sydney.

Warner, a left-handed batter, has already announced his contemplation of retiring from red-ball cricket, making the upcoming series against Pakistan the final Test series of his career. In response to Warner’s farewell series, Pakistan’s T20I captain and prominent pacer, Shaheen Afridi, commended Warner for his exceptional contribution to the game, acknowledging his impressive cricketing career for the Australian team.

“David Warner has had a great career. He’s played really good cricket for Australia, not only in T20Is but across all three formats. He’s a wonderful guy. It is his last series, hopefully, not very good against us,” Shaheen was quoted as saying by India Today.

Identifying a suitable replacement for David Warner in the red-ball format poses a significant challenge for the Australian team management. Despite the star left-hander’s recent struggles in Test matches, his past contributions have been undeniably crucial for the Kangaroos. Travis Head who comes to bat at middle over is likely to be the next opening batter for the Australian team as he opens for the team in the white-ball cricket.
