‘He owning England on and off the field’ – Fans react to Steve Smith ‘confirming’ Alex Carey taking a haircut and paying for it

Australia vice-captain Steve Smith has resurrected the haircut joke around teammate and wicketkeeper batter Alex Carey. Apparently, during the Lord’s Test early this month, the rumor started around the latter not paying for his haircut. The Barber, Adam Mahmood claimed that the Australia wicketkeeper batter insisted on paying via online transfer although Mahmood’s shop was all about cash-only payments.

Former England skipper Alastair Cook narrated this story on one of the home broadcasters in England. The highest run-getter for England in Tests added that Carey promised the barber to make the payment before the close.

“[The barber] said, he hasn’t paid,” Cook said while speaking on BBC Test Match Special on the opening day of the third Ashes Test. “It was one of those cash-only ones, and he promised he would have a transfer later in the day, and this was just before he shut. This is a true story, I’m not making it up,” he added sharing more details on the subject.

However, later on, Cook apologized for his role in spreading the rumor. He said that it was a case of mistaken identity.

“There’s also been a bit of fuss around on a rainy day, a bit of news about a haircut which might have been discussed on radio the other day,” he said. “A case of mistaken identity, so I apologise for the mistaken identity to Alex Carey.”
