England needed to win the third Test of the ongoing Ashes 2023. After all, they lost the first two games by small margins as they did well in patches in both. Notably, they never lost an Ashes series at home since 2021. Meanwhile, the home team made a few changes in the team. They decided to drop James Anderson and bring in the likes of Chris Woakes, Moeen Ali, and Mark Wood.

On the other hand, Nathan Lyon, who is ruled out of the series was replaced by Todd Murphy. Talking about the game, The Three Lions won the toss and elected to bowl first. They had a great start as they took four wickets for 85. Even though the likes of Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head (39) took the team to 240/4, the England bowlers didn’t let the Aussies get too many runs.

The Kangaroos were bowled out for 263, with Mark Wood completing a fifer. In reply, Australia bowlers took six wickets for 131. However, they failed to extract a massive lead as Ben Stokes (80) and Mark Wood (24) took the team to 234, with Aussies getting only 26 runs after the first innings. Skipper Pat Cummins took six wickets.

With only 26 runs in the band, the visitors needed a massive score. However, despite Head’s 77, the team only managed 224 runs, asking England to chase 251.

England manages to keep the Ashes 2023 alive

In a tricky chase, the home team, openers Zak Crawley (44) and Ben Duckett (23) got starts but didn’t get big scores. Moeen Ali, who was promoted at number, was flattered to deceive as he got out on five. Even former skipper Joe Root (21) failed to get a big score.

With skipper Ben Stokes (13) and Jonny Bairstow (5) failing, the team was reduced to 171/6 with Mitchell Starc taking four. At this point, Harry Brook (75) and Chris Woakes took the team and they won by three wickets. Now, they need to win the fourth Test in Manchester to keep it alive till the last game.
