Shubman Gill failed to impress the fans with his performance in the 1st innings of the 3rd Test against England. After scoring a hundred in his previous innings at Vizag, Gill could not even score a run in the first innings at Rajkot. After facing nine balls, the right-handed batter ended up edging one to the wicketkeeper and returned to the pavilion.

Gill was undone by Mark Wood due to his sheer pace. The express pacer troubled Gill in his stay in the middle. Wood’s pace was not countered well by Gill, who struggled to get going in his short stay in the crease. Wood got the ball to talk with his accuracy and aggression. Gill tried to counter the right-arm pacer by bombarding a series of good length deliveries.

Wood tempted Gill to drive the ball by going full on a couple of occasions. It created doubts in the mind of the youngster. When the express pacer delivered a good length delivery which had to be played by Gill, he was not confident, and the ball caught the edge of the willow. Ben Foakes made no mistake as England got the wicket of the talented batter.

India recover despite the early breakthroughs

England were over the moon with the wicket of the Indian number three. It was the second wicket of India in the first innings at Rajkot. All of them were in the first hour of the match. England were right on top after the dismissal. Tom Hartley gave them a bigger lead by getting rid of Rajat Patidar. The first hour of the Test surely belonged to the visiting side.

Since then, the home side has managed to stay alive in the game, thanks to the fourth wicket partnership between Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja. The duo has steadied the Indian innings with their timely knocks. After registering series of low scores, Rohit finally managed to score a fifty in the series when the Indian team was desperate for a big score from him.
