Royal Challengers Bangalore fans weren’t pleased with their team’s purchase of West Indies’ pacer Alzarri Joseph. The West Indian pacer was brought for INR 11.5 Crores during the IPL Mini Auctions on Tuesday in Dubai.

The right-arm pacer was part of Gujarat Titans for the last two seasons and played in the victorious 2022 season. Alzarri Joseph began his IPL career in 2019 with Mumbai Indians coming in as a replacement player.

In his very first game, the right-arm fast bowler picked 6/12 versus Sunrisers Hyderabad. This is still the best bowling figure in the history of IPL, but injuries meant Joseph’s start was curtailed. Mumbai Indians soon let him go before he was snapped by Gujarat Titans during the Mega Auctions in 2022.

West Indian fast bowler Alzarri Joseph was confirmed as Royal Challengers Bangalore’s new player on Tuesday. Faf Du Plessis led side paid INR 11.5 Crores to acquire the 27-year-old pacer from Antigua.

It was widely expected that Mitchell Starc was the bowler RCB was looking at during the IPL 2024 Auctions. During the mock auctions on Monday, the team from Bangalore had paid 18.5 Crores to send the fans into a frenzy.

The West Indian pace bowler has played 19 games in the IPL and picked 20 wickets with a best of 6/12. Despite having a good pace and being considered one of the quickest bowlers, Alzarri Joseph hasn’t lived up to his potential.

Meanwhile, former RCB pace bowler Josh Hazlewood went unsold during the earliest rounds. It has been confirmed that the 31-year-old is set to miss the first half of the season due to personal reasons. Josh Hazlewood and his wife are set to welcome their first child in a few months.

Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins were the two headline buys of the day. Kolkata Knight Riders paid INR 24.75 Crores to buy Mitchell Starc. Pat Cummins on the other hand became first player to breach the INR 20 Crore mark.

Sunrisers Hyderabad got hold of the Australian skipper for INR 20.5 Crores. The 2016 IPL winners also brought Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, Travis Head, and Jaydev Unadkat to make it a memorable day at the bidding table.
