Greatest game of all time’ – Fans react as India win final T20I vs Afghanistan in double Super Over
In a dramatic game, Afghanistan gave India a mighty scare as the home team won the game to seal the series 3-0. Rohit Sharma came back to form in roaring fashion as he scored 121 not out off 69 balls. This was the fifth T20I century for the Indian skipper.
In reply the Afghan batter came back into the game thanks to half-centuries by their openers. The trio of half-centuries from the Afghan batters made sure the game ended in a tie in regulation time.
Earlier in the day, Rohit Sharma elected to bat first after he won the toss. Both sides made three changes to their team. This was the last international T20 game for India before the 2024 T20 World Cup in June.
Rohit and Rinku power India to series whitewash
Batting first India was reduced to 22/4 with Fareed Ahmed destroying the Indian top order. Virat Kohli and Sanju Samson were out for first ball ducks going for hits of short balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube who scored fifties in the previous game were out early on Wednesday. Rinku Singh then came into bat and added 190 runs for the 5th wicket with Rohit Sharma.
Once the two batters got their eyes in they were unstoppable as Afghanistan bowlers had nowhere to hide. Rohit Sharma scored his fifth century on a memorable night for the 36-year-old. Rahmanullah Gurbaz began well as he attacked the Indian bowlers to score his half-century. The openers added 93 for the first wicket before Kuldeep Yadav got the wicket of Gurbaz.
Ibrahim Zadran then played well to score 50 as he was outstumped by Samson off Sunday. Azmatullah Omarzai then fell for a duck to give Sundar his second wicket in two balls. Mohammed Nabi and Gulbadin Naib then added 56 runs in just 22 balls to get their team bat into the game,
Gulbadin Naib scored 55 not out off 23 balls with four boundaries and four sixes. With 19 needed off the final over Naib hit a four and a six to take 18 runs off the last over. The match ended in a tie as the game went to super over.
In the super over, Afghanistan batted first and lost Gulabadin Naib’s run out in the first ball. The visitors ended with 16 runs with three runs coming in the last ball due to Samson’s overthrow. Needing 17 to win, India sent out Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal with Azmatullah Omarzai bowling. The first two balls saw just two runs come with Omarzai keeping his nerve.
Rohit Sharma then hit the third ball for six to make it 9 off 3 balls. The next ball yet another six was hit and a single came of the fifth ball. With two needed off 1 ball, Rohit retired himself out to get Rinku Singh. Jaiswal then took a single to force the game to another super over.
Rohit began with a six and a four before taking a single off the third. The next two balls saw India lose two wickets and end with 11 on the board. With 12 needed for a win, India went in with Ravi Bishnoi and took two wickets to win India the game by 10 runs.
