The mini-auction for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to occur in Dubai on Tuesday, December 19, where the fate of 333 players will be determined. Franchises have already submitted their retention and release lists, with notable trades, including Hardik Pandya’s return to Mumbai Indians (MI).

Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra, former KKR player and prominent commentator, has identified three players whom he believes Chennai Super Kings (CSK) might target in the mini-auction. CSK, a five-time champion, released significant names, including Ben Stokes and Ambati Rayudu, the latter having retired while Stokes opted out of the upcoming season.

According to Aakash, the MS Dhoni-led CSK team may pursue South Africa‘s emerging fast bowler, Gerald Coetzee, who showcased an outstanding performance in the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023. Coetzee secured 18 wickets in just 9 matches, potentially fulfilling CSK’s quest for a high-quality fast bowler.

“They can buy fast bowlers. The first name that comes to my mind will come in their mind as well because he is a part of the Jo’burg Super Kings. The guy’s name is Gerald Coetzee. If they wish to have him, they can even spend 10-14 crore rupees on him.” Aakash was quoted as saying by One Cricket.

They have a lot of money and they need an Indian batter: Aakash Chopra

In addition to Coetzee, Aakash also identified two Indian players who could find themselves playing under Dhoni’s captaincy. Aakash suggested that Dhoni might be able to extract better performances from the underperforming Manish Pandey, citing instances where players who struggled elsewhere flourished under Dhoni’s leadership. Aakash also mentioned Shahrukh Khan, the local talent from Chennai, as a potential candidate who could receive a call-up from CSK.

“They have a lot of money and they need an Indian batter. Considering their track record, they might say – ‘Aa ja bhai Pandey’, that MS Dhoni can get the underperforming Manish Pandey to deliver, or else they can take Karun Nair as well.” Aakash said.

“There is a Chennai boy who can come in this team. He is Shahrukh Khan. I feel Delhi (Capitals) will try to spend a lot of money to acquire him and Chennai can also do that. However, they are not very gung-ho on this, they don’t get obsessed that they need a Chennai boy.” he added.

Nepal Premier League Final

Nepal Premier League Final! Janakpur Bolts clinched the inaugural Nepal Premier League title by defeating Sudurpaschim Royals in a thrilling final. The Bolts showcased remarkable resilience, chasing down a target of 187 runs with five wickets in hand at the TU International Cricket Ground.

Sudurpaschim Royals, batting first, set a competitive total of 184 for nine wickets, led by Saif Zaib and Binod Bhandari. Zaib scored a solid 69 runs, while Bhandari added a crucial 41. However, their middle order failed to capitalize on a strong start, succumbing to disciplined bowling from Janakpur’s attack.

Kishor Mahato and Mohammad Mohisin starred with the ball for Janakpur, each claiming three wickets. Lalit Rajbanshi bowled an exceptional spell, conceding just 15 runs, including a maiden over. Their efforts restricted Sudurpaschim from posting a more imposing total.

In response, Janakpur’s Lahiru Milantha led the charge with a stunning 87 runs off 49 balls, including six fours and as many sixes. His innings anchored the chase, despite early pressure from Sudurpaschim’s bowlers. Aasif Sheikh, the Janakpur captain, played a vital supporting role, ensuring a composed finish.
