India women’s team claimed a memorable win against Australia in the one-off Test match by 8 wickets at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. The home side has not lost a Test match yet in the last 16 years and continue the streak for some more time. A collective performance from both batting and bowling units ensured that India won the match to clinch the series of one-off Test.

Australian women won the toss and elected to bat first in Mumbai. Their innings was cut short to 219 runs in the first wicket, thanks to a brilliant bowling performance from the home side. India fielders were brilliant, and the bowlers bowled in good lines. Pooja Vastrakar, Sneh Rana, and Deepti Sharma claimed 4, 3, and 2 wickets respectively for the home side. The spinners were brilliant in their spells.

India in their first innings posted a very good total of 406 runs on the board. There were multiple contributors with the bat for India. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma scored 74 and 40 runs respectively. Richa Ghosh and Jemimah Rodrigues scored 52 and 73 runs respectively. Deepti Sharma batted well down the order and scored 73 runs, which took the game away from Australia. Australia batted better in their second innings.

Indian women continue their unbeaten streak

There was a good resistance from the middle order batters. Ellyse Perry and Tahlia McGrath were good as they scored 45 and 73 runs respectively. Alyssa Healy and Annabel Sutherland added their bit of runs. But it was not good enough for Australia, as they were dismissed for 261 runs in their second innings. For India, all the bowlers bowled extremely well in the middle. Sneh Rana was the pick of the bowlers, who claimed 4 wickets.

Rajeshwari Gayakwad and captain Kaur claimed 2 wickets each. The target for India to chase was 75 runs. Despite losing a couple of wickets, Mandhana batted through the innings and ensured the Indian win. With that, the unbeaten streak of India continues in Test cricket. December was a good month for Indian women, given the WPL auction, and the wins in Tests against England and Australia.
