WATCH: People shout ‘Mumbai Cha Raja Rohit Sharma’ in front of Hardik Pandya

The appointment of Hardik Pandya as the new Mumbai Indians captain has not gone well with the supporters of the team who have seen Rohit Sharma leading them to glory in the last 10 years. There has been a genuine hate against Hardik for him taking over the captaincy of MI. The hate has also been against the management that chose to name a new captain over a successful one.

Rohit Sharma has helped MI to win 5 trophies in 11 editions as the captain of the franchise, which is the best conversion rate for a captain in the history of the IPL. In 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020, MI won the IPL under the leadership of Sharma. But it seems as if MI had decided to move on from Rohit to hand over the captaincy to a new face.

Hardik has not been a pushover either as a captain. He helped GT to win the title in the IPL 2022 and nearly helped them to defend it again in 2023. If not for the finishing from Ravindra Jadeja, there was a good chance of him winning 2 trophies on a trot as a captain. He will now be leading MI in the IPL 2024 and most likely beyond it as well.

Outrage of fans against Hardik Pandya

Ever since Hardik was appointed as the captain of MI, the fans have expressed their outrage in their ways. Some of the fans burnt the jersey, cap, and flag of MI. Many others unfollowed the official account of the franchise on social media. In the latest incident, Hardik was found in Mumbai. People gave a rough welcome for Hardik with slogans of ‘Mumbai Cha Raja Rohit Sharma’.

Watch the video of the same here:

Hardik was not happy with the reception he got. The Indian T20 captain was visibly angry at the slogans of the people. He gave a stare to the people and moved on from the spot. The former and current players of MI have given their mixed opinions on the decision of the management to appoint a new captain. Things would be interesting in the dressing room of MI in the IPL 2024.
