Pandya was on the retained list of Gujarat Titans (GT) even when there were rumors of him being traded to MI. However, a day after the deadline for player retention, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) lent a helping hand to their arch-rivals by trading Cameron Green for INR 17.5 crore and MI landed their former player.

As per IPL rules, the player-trading window opens a month after the end of a particular season and then remains open until one week before the auction date. The next day of the auction, the window will reopen until a month before the start of the next season.

Hence, the IPL 2024 trade window was closed on December 12 as the mini-auction was scheduled in Dubai on December 19. It will reopen on December 12 and will be up to a month before the 2024 season begins. This means the window is likely to remain open till February and franchises can transfer Rohit, if he and MI are inclined.
