After having won the toss, the Indian team skipper Jasprit Bumrah chose to ball first, considering the overcast condition. It was Bumrah’s comeback game after being out of the action for the last 11 months. The decision of bowling first was proven right by the skipper himself as the India speedster picked up two wickets in the very over of the match dismissing Andrew Balbirnie (4) and Lorcan Tucker (0).

Burmrah was well supported by the other Indian bowlers as the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, and Ravi Bishnoi all picked up wickets at the initial burst of their bowling stint to give the Indian team an advantage. The performance was such devasting that the host were left reeling at 30/4 inside the batting powerplay. The wickets kept on tumbling after the batting powerplay also as the Ireland team were left reeling at one stage with 59/6 at one stage.

But after that, Curtis Campher (39) combined really well with Barry McCarthy to stitch a partnership of 59 runs for the seventh wicket. However, once Campher got out McCarthy took the matters into his hands and started smashing the Indian bowlers all around the park. The 30-year-old batter played a crucial knock of 51 runs off just 33 balls with four boundaries as well as four delightful sixes and made sure that the Ireland team reach a respectful total of 139 runs.

India started well in their chase

In reply, the India team had a steadied start with both Yashasvi Jaiswal (24) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (19*) playing cautiously in a condition that suited the bowling. But it was that one over from Craig Young where the Irish pacer got two wickets. The right-hand bowler first dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal for 24 and then got the wicket of in-form Tilak Varma (0) off the very next delivery. However, soon after that, there was heavy rain which eventually saw the match being called off. The Indian team were 2 runs ahead of the DLS par score, which eventually helped them register their first win on the tour.
