Diljit Dosanjh Faces Legal Trouble After New Year’s Concert in Ludhiana

The Diljit Dosanjh Ludhiana controversy erupted following the Punjabi superstar’s New Year’s Eve performance during his Dil-Luminati Tour. The concert, held in Ludhiana, sparked a complaint accusing Dosanjh of promoting alcohol through his music.

Punditrao Dharenavar, a Chandigarh-based assistantw professor, lodged the complaint, urging authorities to ban specific tracks from the live performance. These songs, including “Patiala Peg,” “5 Taara,” and “Case,” allegedly glorify alcohol consumption.

As per ANI, the Deputy Director of the Women and Child Department, Punjab, issued a notice to Ludhiana’s District Commissioner. The notice demanded intervention to prevent Diljit from performing the contested songs, even with modified lyrics.

Legal and Social Concerns

Dharenavar cited previous warnings issued to the Border 2 actor by various commissions. Despite advisories, Dosanjh reportedly continued performing controversial songs with minor changes in lyrics. Dharenavar also referenced a 2019 Punjab and Haryana High Court ruling. The ruling prohibits performances of songs promoting alcohol, drugs, or violence at public events, emphasizing the negative influence on children.

The complainant stressed the harmful impact on young audiences, especially with underage children present at such events. He also criticized Diljit for performing while wearing a pagadi (turban), a symbol he believes should uphold positive values.

Previous Controversies

This isn’t the first time Diljit faced criticism for his music. Before a Hyderabad show, the Telangana government issued a similar notice, prompting the singer to modify lyrics during his performance.

Tour Highlights

The Ludhiana concert, a last-minute addition to Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati India Tour, was initially set to conclude in Guwahati. The tour celebrated the global appeal of Punjabi music and marked a triumphant return to Dosanjh’s homeland.

Game Changer Set to Release on January 10, 2025

Shankar’s much-anticipated Telugu film, Game Changer, will hit theatres on January 10, 2025, for Sankranthi. Starring Ram Charan, Kiara Advani, and SJ Suryah, the film is a political action thriller. Ram Charan plays dual roles as a political leader, Appanna, and an IAS officer, Ram Nandan. Kiara Advani plays his love interest, while Anjali stars as Appanna’s wife.

The recently released trailer gives a glimpse into the intense storyline. After a tragedy strikes, Ram Nandan aims to fulfill his father’s dream of a corruption-free country. However, his journey faces challenges from Bobbili Mopidevi, a corrupt CM portrayed by SJ Suryah.

The film also features Vennela Kishore, Naveen Chandra, Samuthirakani, and Prakash Raj in significant roles. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) awarded Game Changer a U/A certificate on January 2, 2025. The movie has a runtime of 2 hours and 45 minutes and will be released in multiple formats, including IMAX and Dolby Cinema.
