Did Babar Azam really refuse to give interview with Irfan Pathan? Check out the reality
The Pakistan Cricket Team’s chances at the ongoing ODI World Cup seem dashed after New Zealand’s decisive victory over Sri Lanka. On November 11, needing to bat first for a shot at the semi-finals, Pakistan lost the toss as England opted to bat, further diminishing their qualifying hopes.
However, amidst prior controversies between the Indian Cricket Board and the Pakistan Cricket Board over Pakistan’s participation in India, the Men in Green received warm hospitality during their stay. Despite this, the Pakistani media has not refrained from disseminating misinformation.
Recently, journalist Naseem Rajput alleged that Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, declined an interview with former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan due to his criticism of Pakistan. Notably, Irfan was seen celebrating when Afghanistan defeated Pakistan in a World Cup clash.
“Irfan attempted to interview Babar, but Babar declined. Initially, the production team of the channel asked for an interview with Pathan on Babar’s behalf, but the Pakistan captain refused. Later, the former Indian all-rounder approached Babar himself to have a chat. However, Babar once again declined the request, stating that he does not speak to those who speak against Pakistan,” Naseem Rajput was quoted as saying by Crictracker.
Gautam Gambhir also fell victim to fake news
However, in a recent turn of events, the widely read Indian sports site Crictracker debunked allegations, deeming them baseless and refuting any occurrence of the speculated events. This incident highlights the unfortunate reality that misinformation tends to proliferate swiftly on social media platforms.
Adding to this narrative, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir found himself ensnared in a similar web when a media house falsely attributed a statement to him. The misquote purported Gambhir as saying, “Virat Kohli would have taken singles on 195 if he had been there. But Glenn Maxwell chose to hit six, that’s what makes him different.” Gambhir promptly clarified the inaccuracies on his social media accounts, underscoring the challenges posed by the dissemination of false information in the digital age.
