Former Indian cricketer and current BJP Member of Parliament from Delhi, Gautam Gambhir, has swiftly refuted claims made in a recent news article that he criticized the former India captain Virat Kohli following Glenn Maxwell’s remarkable double century against Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan.

The News18 article in question quoted Gambhir as saying, “Virat Kohli would have taken singles on 195 if he had been there. But Glenn Maxwell chose to hit six, that’s what makes him different.” However, Gambhir promptly addressed the situation, expressing his dismay at the false statement and categorically denying ever making such comments.

He took to his social media handle at X (formerly known as Twitter) and tweeted that whenever he says something he says it openly. He also asked the media to cite sources before publishing such news or apologise to him for this incident.

“What bullsh*t! When I say something I say it openly. To all the so-called verified handles – cite a source or apologise!” Gambhir tweeted.

It was important for Kohli to bat deep: Gautam Gambhir

False or misleading reports can easily stir controversy and lead to misunderstandings among cricket fans and the public. Gambhir’s swift clarification aims to dispel any doubts about his relationship with Kohli and emphasises the need for responsible journalism and accurate reporting.

Kohlil recently achieved a great milestone as he equalled former legend Sachin Tendulkar’s record most centuries records in ODIs as he smashed his 49th ton against South Africa on November 5. Gambhir heaped praise on Kohli for his responsible knock on a surface where batting was pretty difficult due to which Kohli had to take a lot of time to achieve the milestone.

“It was important for Kohli to bat deep and I feel it was at the end, just the last 5-6 overs where he slowed down a bit, maybe because he was nearing a century. But I believe there were already enough runs on the board. It could have hurt India if they were batting on a good pitch,” Gambhir was quoted as saying by The Free Press Journal.
