Former legendary Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has intensified his playful banter directed at the struggling Pakistan cricket team in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. Following Pakistan’s setback with New Zealand’s victory over Sri Lanka, Sehwag, known for his witty remarks, took to social media to mock the Men in Green.

Despite cautious advice from fans, Sehwag couldn’t resist poking fun at Pakistan’s predicament, highlighting their imminent exit from the tournament. The anticipation reached a climax as England won the crucial toss and opted to bat first, sealing Pakistan’s fate in the 44th match which is being played in Kolkata. Sehwag wasted no time in seizing the moment, using the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter_ to deliver another stinging jibe.

In his latest tweet, Sehwag reminded Pakistan of their historical struggles, emphasising that they have qualified for the semi-finals only once in the last 6 ODI World Cups – a feat achieved back in 2011. The tweet adds fuel to the already fiery banter between Sehwag and Pakistan fans, underscoring the intensity and unpredictability that defines the world of international cricket.

“In the 21st century, there have been 6 ODI world cups. In 6 attempts, only once in 2007 did we not qualify for the semi-finals and have qualified in 5 of the last 6 World Cups. On the other hand, only once have Pakistan qualified for the semis in 6 attempts in 2011.

And they come up with ridiculous allegations blaming the Apex Cricket Council and the Indian Cricket Board for changing balls and pitch. Their Prime Minister mocks us when we lose to another team despite having beaten them. Upon reaching here, their player posts pictures of enjoying tea in Hyderabad with sarcasm to mock our soldier.” Sehwag tweeted.

They expect love for their hate: Virender Sehwag

Expressing his discontent, Sehwag further added and said that the PCB chief’s on-camera reference to India as ‘Dushman Mulk’ (Enemy country). He emphasises reciprocal behaviour, advocating kindness but asserting a readiness to respond firmly, both on and off the field.

“The PCB chief on camera refers to our country as ‘Dushman Mulk’ (Enemy country). And they expect love for their hate. And those preaching classes, that is a two-way street.  Jo Achha vyavhar kare uske saath hum bahut hi achhe, aur jo aisa vyavhar kare toh sahi mauke par soot samet lautana is my way. On-field bhi, off-field bhi.” he added.
