‘Death of Test Matches? ‘ – Fans react to India’s fastest ever Test win by 7 wickets vs South Africa in Cape Town

Dean Elgar saw his final Test match get over inside two days after India won the second Test in Cape Town. After losing the first Test in Centurion on the 3rd day by an innings and 32 runs, Rohit Sharma finally had his revenge.

This is the first time India had won a Test Match in Cape Town. Rohit Sharma and his side also became the first team from Asia to win a Test at this venue. The match was also the quickest a game had finished in Test history.

Aiden Markram showed his class with the bat as he scored an inspired century on the second day but it wasn’t enough for South Africa to put up a competitive total to challenge the Indian batters. The 29-year-old waged a lone fight against the Indian pacer led by Jasprit Bumrah who picked 6 wickets with the ball.

Team India posts commanding win in Cape Town Test –

It did not take long on the second day for the Indian Cricket Team to make their statement. Jasprit Bumrah got David Bedingham to edge the ball to give India their first wicket. The 30-year-old then had Kyle Verreynne caught by Mohammed Siraj to pouch his third wicket.

As the wickets kept falling and South Africa still trailing, Aiden Markram went on the offensive. None of the Indian bowlers were spared as Markram was causing mayhem on a hot day in Cape Town. The century came via a four as the opener removed his helmet and soaked in the applause.

Mohammed Siraj was introduced into the attack from the Wynberg end from where most of the wickets had fallen. It didn’t take Siraj much time as he got the wicket of Markram to end an amazing innings. Prasidh Krishna got his first wicket when he had Rabada caught by Rohit before Bumrah ended the innings by dismissing Ngidi.

Needing just 79 runs to win, Yashasvi Jaiswal seemed in a mood to finish the game early. The young batter went after Kagiso Rabada and Nandre Burger to score 28 runs from 23 balls with six fours.

Kagiso Rabada bowled Shubman Gill for ten runs but the South African fielders let the team down. Rohit Sharma was twice dropped once by Keshav Maharaj and then by Tony De Zorzi. The win came when Shreyas Iyer hit Marco Jansen for a four down the ground and let out a roar.
