Bowlers get reprieve with a change in rule in IPL 2024
Good news awaits the bowlers in the biggest cricket league. They get a reprieve with a change in rule ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The 17th edition of the league is set to witness a small improvement in the rules, as the bowlers are allowed to bowl 2 bouncers per over. It might be a small change in the rule, but the impact it might have on the game would be very crucial.
These days, bowlers are paralyzed by default with a lack of options in front of them in T20 cricket. Batters are no longer threatened by the pace of the bowlers and in fact, use it to their advantage to score easy runs. Slower ones do not affect the batters either, as they are getting fitter day by day and with that, they are able to extract power from within to dispatch the ball out of the boundaries.
The advancement in technology, the thickness of the bat, and everything else have helped the batters big time. As a result, 200s are no longer the par score in T20Is. Even 210s are getting chased for fun in T20Is. There has been an emphasis on run-scoring in the league and the bowlers have almost been handicapped in cricket.
Bowlers to be back in the game!
A slight change in lengths and lines would make them pay. Hence, even the greatest bowlers today have to suffer the beatings from the batters, which is very hard to see. It would not be wrong to say that they are being reduced to bowling machines. In order to bring parity between the bat and the ball, a rule was necessary to be brought, which was in favour of the bowlers.
The IPL 2024 will see the introduction of the new rule which is very essential for the bowlers. Much like Yorkers, the bouncers are one of the toughest deliveries to be overcome by the batters. Unlike the yorker who needs accuracy and precision in delivery from the bowlers, bouncers can genuinely threaten the batters, which is a good challenge for them.
