‘Bollywood ka audition do isko’ – Fans react to Mohammad Rizwan’s ‘sometimes it’s cramp, sometimes it’s acting’ remark after match-winning ton against Sri Lanka

Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan and opener Abdullah Shafique were the heroes of the night in the match against Sri Lanka. The Men in Green pulled off the highest successful run-chase in World Cup history, led by Rizwan and Shafique who scored dazzling centuries. Sri Lanka set a huge first-innings target of 345, but with 10 balls to spare, Pakistan sealed their second win of the ongoing tournament.

Earlier, Kusal Mendis (122) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (108) notched up brilliant centuries for Sri Lanka. This is the third instance of four batters scoring centuries in an ODI and the first time it has happened in a World Cup match. The Lions thought they had the upper hand, but they were treated with their own medicine in Hyderabad as Rizwan and Shafique put in a ruthless batting display.

Their heroics came after Pakistan slipped to 37 for the loss of 2 wickets. Rizwan posted the highest-ever score by a wicketkeeper from his nation, surpassing Kamran Akmal’s 124 against West Indies back in 2005. However, the 31-year-old faced challenges in Hyderabad’s humid conditions en route to his 121-ball 131. He battled muscle strains and cramps while batting in the 80s, with painkillers and physiotherapy providing temporary relief.

A new career opening for Pakistan’s wicket-keeper batter?

In the 37th over, Rizwan crumpled on the pitch while hitting Dhananjaya de Silva for a six. Following the incident, the commentators were all in splits, with Simon Doull even commenting on air, “Someone get him in the movies.” The right-handed batter continued his fight, albeit limping for a while before bringing up a well-deserved century. A few overs later, Pakistan’s spirited warrior helped his team cross the finish line.

Meanwhile, when Rizwan was asked about his cramps during the post-match presentation, he admitted that it wasn’t all real and some of it was acting. “Sometimes it’s cramps and sometimes I acting (chuckles),” Rizwan was heard saying in a viral video.

This is Pakistan’s second win in the ongoing World Cup. They had defeated the Netherlands by 81 runs in the first match. With a net run rate of +0.927, Babar Azam and Co. are now placed second in the points table. Their next match is against arch-rivals India, a blockbuster clash that is scheduled to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14.
