Axar Patel reveals his frustration after missing selection for ODI World Cup 2023
Star Indian all-rounder Axar Patel is back with the Men In Blue and playing the T20I series against Australia. The 29-year-old has opened up on missing the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament which was held in India.
The Asian side had lost the final to Australia at the Axar Patel’s home ground in Ahmedabad. This was Australia’s sixth ODI World Cup title win as Travis Head scored a memorable ton. Axar Patel was ruled out after getting injured during the 2023 Asia Cup tournament.
Axar Patel reveals his frustration –
29-year-old Axar Patel was replaced in the ODI World Cup 2023 squad by Ravichandran Ashwin just a week before the campaign. The Indian player threw light on his feelings during a press conference after his win over Australia on Friday.
Axar Patel said “Obviously, you are bound to be [disappointed]. The World Cup was in India, but that injury happened. For the first few days, I was thinking about it, not being able to play due to injury. But, the team was doing well, so after 5-10 days, I was back to training and was doing my rehab”
The Indian star continued “But yes, when you are out due to injury and those 5-10 days you are not able to do anything, you do feel a bit bad. After that, I returned to routine life. I was upset, but it happened due to an injury, it is not in anyone’s hands. It is part and parcel of the game”
The next big tournament for India is the 2024 T20 World Cup and Patel wants to look forward to the tournament. “Our schedule does not have a lot of T20 matches. There are around 9-10 games. You have to start planning and preparing for the T20 World Cup from now. The World Cup is in June, in between there is the IPL as well. The planning is going on; everyone is aware of their roles”
For now, the left-arm all-rounder is waiting for the regular squad to come back to make further plans for the tournament in June. “When Rahul [Dravid] sir and the others come back, more detailed discussions will be held, but we knew what to do in this series. There was no confusion”
