India batter KL Rahul has spoken about the importance of winning a World Cup (either T20I or ODI) for a player’s career. He was part of the team that lost the final of the ODI WC 2023 against Australia. During the tournament, the Men In Blue only lost this game. They arrived in the final after winning 10 games on the trot.

Currently, he is playing for the Asian side in the tour of South Africa. Rahul led the team to a 2-1 ODI series win. In the first Test against South Africa, the right-hander scored a hundred. Meanwhile, the Bengaluru player spoke to Star Sports and mentioned the importance of winning a World Event.

“It really doesn’t mean much or 10 years or 15 years later when we retire we will not remember our career for the runs or wickets that we’ve taken or other bilateral series that we won. World Cups are the only thing that we will remember. So, yeah, there’s that extra fire in us to go a couple of steps further the next time,” KL Rahul said.

On the other hand, the Lucknow Super Giants‘ captain spoke about the pressure of making a good comeback after an injury. He sustained a quadricep tear during the IPL 2023 and made his comeback in the Asia Cup 2023 which the team won.

“Yeah, but during all of this time, I knew there was pressure to come back and all of that, but I had such a bad event that happened in my life that everything else seemed like, okay, it doesn’t, really matter. Everything else seemed smaller compared to, tearing your quadriceps and going through surgery. I couldn’t walk for the first three or four weeks. I was on the walker and, then slowly started building myself up during all that time,” he added.
