Andy Roddick has made a huge claim on the future of Tennis. The statement of Roddick has come following the conclusion of the Australian Open 2024 which saw the World number one being beaten for the 1st time in a long time at the event. The former Grand Slam winner spoke about the Serbian and the young generation of players trying to make the sport their own.

The American felt that Novak Djokovic limped out in the concluding moments of his campaign in the tournament. While Andy maintained Djokovic as the best player on Earth, he felt that the dominance of Novak might come to an end. “He kind of limped out of this Australian Open a little bit, you know, through no fault of his own, the guy’s been better than anyone on Earth, and it’s going to happen,” claimed Roddick.

Andy claimed that he is concerned about the star player. The former Tennis player said that Novak is getting older with time and claimed it an obvious phenomenon in an athlete’s career. Roddick claimed that the younger players are picking up quickly. “But I’m a little concerned… one, he’s not getting younger when it turns, it turns quickly also, he has guys that can punch him in the mouth, you know,” Roddick said.

Once they know they can beat him, they’re not going to revert – Andy Roddick

Andy felt that the younger generation is closer to realizing that Djokovic is not unbeatable. The former Grand Slam winner claimed that the younger generation would no more play second fiddle to the 36-year-old in the days to come. Djokovic was beaten in the semifinal of the Australian Open 2024 by Jannik Sinner.

“He has this new generation that once they know they can beat him, they’re not going to revert to the mentality that there’s no way to beat him,” Roddick concluded. While Djokovic is mentally the toughest athlete, there are youngsters who are way too fitter than him. Roddick felt that such players are ready to make the sport their own in the days to come.
