Despite having a star-studded lineup in almost all seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Royal Challengers Bangalore have never got their hands on the coveted IPL trophy. The team have also seen legendary cricketers as the captains like Anil Kumble, Daniel Vettori, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli but none of them could help the team to win the title.

Meanwhile, now the franchise has finally taken a great decision as the former Zimbabwe legendary cricketer Andy Flower is set to take the role of head coach from the next season of the league. RCB’s current coach Mike Hesson’s stint will expire on August 31 and the other members of his coaching staff including batting coach Sanjay Bangar will also make an exit.

However, fans were delighted after they heard some reports of former RCB legendary player AB de Villiers joining the team again as the mentor. Although these are just claims as there is no official confirmation about the same. But de Villiers has earlier wished to join the team for any role.

“I will go to Bengaluru for IPL 2023 but not as a player. I will say sorry to RCB fans for not winning the IPL title for them. I also want to thank them for showering love on me. I can’t play cricket as I had surgery on my right eye,” de Villiers was quoted as saying by Crictoday.

Andy Flower’s brilliant records as a coach in Franchise leagues

Coming back to Flower, he was appointed as the head coach of the Kings XI Punjab (Punjab Kings) in 2020 but did not impress many fans. However, his stint as the head coach for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) was quite impressive as he helped the team to qualify for the playoffs in two consecutive seasons of the cash-rich league.

However, Flower has also guided the teams in other franchise leagues such as Pakistan Super League (PSL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and others. He helped Multan Sultan to win the PSL title in 2020 while in the same year, he also guided Saint Lucia Kings to win the CPL title.
