The 2nd match of The Hundred was played between Welsh Fire and Manchester Originals at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Wednesday, August 2. The match was reduced to only 40 balls due to rain and Welsh Fire displayed a brilliant all-round performance and won the match by 9 runs.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s star fast bowler Shaheen Afridi made his debut in The Hundred for Welsh and displayed a brilliant bowling performance. He dismissed Phil Salt and Laurie Evans in the first two deliveries of the 2nd innings. However, now, a Pakistan journalist Farid Khan tweeted about it.

However, he also mentioned India’s star batters Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in his tweet and said that he wants Shaheen to take Rohit and Gill’s wickets in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. Many fans have reacted to the tweet and slammed him brutally for the tweet.

It was good fun and enjoyed it: Luke Wells

Talking about the match, Manchester won the toss and elected to field first. Joshua Little provided the first breakthrough on the 9th ball of the match as he dismissed Joe Clarke. However, Luke Wells and Glenn Phillips stitched a 58-run partnership for the 2nd wicket.  Wells smashed a brilliant fifty and scored 57 runs off just 23 balls which included 7 fours and 3 sixes and helped the team to score 94 runs in 40 balls.

Little picked up 2 wickets in 10 balls for Manchester. Chasing the target, Manchester had a horrible start as Afridi got the first two wickets. Jos Buttler and Max Holden tried their best to chase the target but it was not enough for them to take the team to victory. Buttler scored 37 runs off 18 balls which included 2 fours and 3 sixes. Holden also scored 37 runs off 18 balls which included 7 fours. Wells talked about his knock in the post-match presentation.

“I think it (opening) was a last-minute decision, we wanted to have a right-hand left-hand combination, thankfully it (the move to open) paid off. You don’t have too much time to think about it (rain-shortened game), it was good fun and enjoyed it.” Wells said after the match.
