India and West Indies clashed against each other in the 5th and series decider match of the 5-match T20I series at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Florida on Sunday, August 13. The Caribbean side displayed a brilliant performance in the must-win and defeated India by 8 wickets. With this win, they also won the series 3-2.

Talking about the match, India won the toss and opted to bat first. However, the decision backfired as the teams’ young openers Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal both went back to the pavilion inside the powerplay. However, the no. 1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav and young left-hander Tilak Varma steadied the ship and stitched a 49-run stand for the 3rd wicket.

But Varma’s dismissal in the 8th over was a major setback for the Men in Blue as no other batter apart from Suryakumar could produce anything special for the team. Surykumar scored 61 runs off 45 balls which included 4 fours and 3 sixes and helped the team to achieve a fighting total of 165 runs.

Brilliant batting performance by West Indies

Windies speedster Romario Shepherd destroyed India’s middle-order as he picked 4 wickets and conceded only 31 runs in his 4 overs quota. Akeal Hosein was also brilliant with the ball as he took 2 wickets and leaked only 24 runs in 4 overs. Jason Holder also managed to take 2 wickets for the team.

Chasing the target, the Caribbean side started horribly as they lost their destructive opener Kyle Mayers in the 2nd over of the innings. However, the wicket didn’t bother Nicholas Pooran and Brandon King much as both dealt with boundaries only and made full use of the powerplay.

Indian bowlers looked clueless in front of Pooran and King as both stitched a massive 107-run stand for the 2nd wicket. However, surprisingly, it was Varma who provided a much-needed breakthrough for India as he dismissed Pooran on the score of 45 runs but it was too late for the Indian team as Windies successfully chased the target with 12 balls to spare.
