AB de Villiers supports Rohit Sharma and questions Cape Town playing surface

Former South African skipper AB de Villiers has come out and slammed the curators of the Cape Town pitch. The second South Africa vs India Test ended in 107 overs to record the shortest-ever Test Match played.

23 wickets fell on the first day while a further ten fell on the second with India winning by 7 wickets. The home side were bowled out for 55 in the first morning just before lunch. Mohammed Siraj grabbed career-best figures of 6/15 as the home team were pushed into a corner.

India lost six wickets for no loss as they collapsed spectacularly in 11 balls. From 153/4 the visitors lost their last six wickets to Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi. Jasprit Bumrah’s 6/61 swung the game in India’s favour and won the game to level the series at 1-1.

AB de Villiers shows displeasure with Cape Town wicket –

After Indian skipper Rohit Sharma it was the turn of AB de Villiers to voice his unhappiness over the Cape Town wicket. The 39-year-old called it ‘Stock Standard’ while speaking on his YouTube channel.

De Villiers live on his YouTube channel said “It (Cape Town) was a pretty stock-standard wicket, in my opinion. I remember jumping around there on Day 1. If you can just get through the first session on Day 1, it gets easier. If you see the players playing their shots and not hanging around, they were doing well”

Ben Stokes had scored 258 runs during England’s visit to South Africa in early 2016. The current England skipper had scored the fastest-ever 250 in Test cricket during his breezy innings.

While remembering the knock, AB de Villiers remarked “I remember Ben Stokes scoring a double hundred there. I scored some hundreds there. You cannot allow bowlers like Vernon Philander, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Kagiso Rabada to keep bowling on off-stump”

After the Cape Town Test ended, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma did not pull back punches. The 36-year-old called out the authorities while slamming the pitch. This ferocious attack from Rohit Sharma was because India had faced criticism over the nature of wickets made.

Rohit had said “I mean, we saw what happened in this match, how the pitch played and stuff like that. I honestly don’t mind playing on pitches like this. As long as everyone keeps their mouth shut in India and don’t talk too much about Indian pitches, honestly,”
