Robinson’s fiver sinks India

Published

on

England have levelled the five-game Test series against India by winning the third Test by an inning and 76 runs.

This is one of the heaviest defeat India have faced in Tests.

India were resilient on Day 3.

They played out of their skin and let their bats do the talking after England put on a masterclass performance with the bat.

India captain Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara shut the critics with gritty fifties and a sublime partnership.

However, as soon as they departed on Day 4, none of the India batters extended their stay on the pitch to give the hosts a good chance of going into follow-on.

With this victory, Joe Root became the most successful English skipper ever with 27 Test wins.

Robinson continues to make an impact

Ollie Robinson played a vital role in toppling India for only 278 in the second innings.

The highly-rated all-rounder has had quite the journey in the last couple of months.

He was under scrutiny by the ECB for his old tweets that sparked a controversy.

He was handed a short ban, but Robinson was quick to make his skills do the talking for him.

He was declared Man of the Match for his five-wicket haul in the second innings, including the prized scalp of Virat Kohli.

He took a total of 7 wickets in the Test as he kept the Indian batting line-up in check throughout the game.

Kohli fails after fifty

Virat Kohli was looking to finally break the shackles in this innings.

However, he could add only 10 runs to his overnight score of 45 and was dismissed at 55.

Robinson got him in the same manner Jimmy Anderson has been troubling the Indian skipper for a while.

He pitched the ball just outside the off stump and Kohli edged it to Joe Root at slip.

Robinson paid tribute to Anderson in his post-match presentation.

“It’s an absolute honour, to learn from him, it’s been something that’s improved my game.”

“Keep trying to be as good as possible and hopefully keep opening the bowling with him. Virat hit me for two fours in the over… but we had the same plan for him, fourth/fifth stump, trying to angle it away, and hopefully he nicks it.”

The Indian skipper has been among runs, but his century drought continues to haunt him.

Pujara’s significance to the Indian team

Cheteshwar Pujara was the most impactful Indian batsman in this game.

He showed his importance is his stay on the pitch.

His 91-run knock laid the foundation for India on Day 3. However, as soon as he faltered, the Indian batters could not stay for long.

His wicket creates a domino effect on the whole team which is a big question mark for the visitors.

Before this knock, the right-handed red-ball specialist had been struggling to find his form back.

But with overcast conditions and a tricky pitch, Pujara stood tall to perform head and shoulders above everyone on his team.

Nonetheless, he has shut down the critics who felt that his slow approach to the game is not helping the team.

England 432 for 8 (Root 121, Hameed 68, Shami 3-87) beat India (78 and 278 by an innings and 76 runs.
