As the cricketing world gears up for the highly anticipated ODI Cricket World Cup 2023, all eyes are on Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team and one of the most prolific opening batters in the history of the game. Rohit has already achieved numerous records and milestones in his career.

But the upcoming World Cup will provide him with an opportunity to etch his name in the record books once again as the tournament will be hosted by India and considering the form Rohit has currently, it looks like he’d definitely break some records. Here are five records that Rohit Sharma can potentially break in the ODI World Cup 2023:

Most Centuries in World Cups:

Rohit Sharma currently shares the record for the most centuries in World Cups with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar as both of them have smashed centuries in their careers. With his ability to score big hundreds and his impeccable form in limited-overs cricket, Rohit has a great chance to surpass this record and become the sole holder of this prestigious achievement.

Most Runs in a Single World Cup Edition:

The record for the most runs in a single World Cup edition stands at 673 runs, set by Sachin Tendulkar in the 2003 World Cup. Rohit’s consistency and ability to score big runs make him a strong contender to challenge this record and possibly even surpass it. In the 2019 World Cup Rohit scored 648 in just 9 innings and also smashed 5 centuries.

Most Sixes as captain in World Cup season:

Known for his elegant stroke play and remarkable ability to clear the boundaries, Rohit Sharma has the potential to break the record for the most sixes in World Cups. The current record is held by former England captain Eoin Morgan who has 22 sixes under his name in a single World Cup edition

Record to become only 3rd Indian Captain to win WC:

It’s been more than 10 years since India have won a major world event trophy. India have won 2 ODI World Cups, one under former legendary allrounder Kapil Dev in 1983 and the second under the former legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni in 2011. Rohit can create history by becoming the 3rd Indian captain to win an ODI World Cup. Interestingly, Rohit was ignored in the 2011 ODI World Cup and now he will be leading the side in the grand tournament in 2023.

Most number of sixes in international cricket:

Rohit is known for his aggressive batting style due to which he is the no. six-hitting Indian batter. However, in the upcoming World Cup, the right–handed batter can become the no. 1 player in the world to hit the most number of sixes in international cricket. He is currently 551 sixes just behind the legendary Caribbean batter Chris Gayle who has smashed 553 sixes in his career.
