Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma is currently in action in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. The Indian team have qualified for the Super 4 stage and are set to clash against Pakistan on September 10 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Rohit was brilliant in the contest against Nepal, it’d be interesting to see him play with the same intent against Pakistan as well.

Meanwhile, Rohit, who is known for his aggressive batting style, recently expressed his desire to break the Caribbean legend Chris Gayle’s record of most sixes in international cricket. Rohit said that he never thought in life to break Gayle’s record. He also revealed that in the initial stage of his career, he was told not to play aerial shots.

“I want to break Chris Gayle’s six-hitting record. Never in my life, I would have imagined that I will break Chris Gayle’s record. It’s funny (flex muscles). I am not a muscle guy but I like to hit the bowl hard. When I started playing cricket, I was told that timing is important. Aerial shots were a big no,” Rohit was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

“We were told that you can play aerial shots. Basic was to keep your head intact, keep the bat close to your body and play the bowl along the carpet. If we used to play aerial shots, the coach used to throw us out from the game,” he said.

I have a huge respect for Rahul Dravid: Rohit Sharma

Rohit has worked hard with India’s head coach Rahul Dravid and is aiming to win the Asia Cup and the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 as well. He talked about Dravid and said that he has a huge respect for him both as a cricketer and as a human.

“I have a huge respect for Rahul Dravid. First for the person he is and then the cricketer. Because being a good human comes first then you are a cricketer, a footballer or a doctor. He is a genuine guy. I didn’t get much chance to play with him but I now have got the opportunity to work with him in the past two years.

He didn’t like to have a communication gap with any player or support staff. His simple rule is to communicate with everyone. We have an open relationship. I have enjoyed my time with Rahul bhai. He is passing his knowledge about cricket to everyone,” he added.
