5 IPL stars who couldn’t make it to India’s men’s squad for Asian Games 2023
The Indian Cricket Board recently announced the squad for the men’s team which will feature in the upcoming 19th edition of the Asian Games which is set to start on September 23 in Hangzhou, China. Many young and new faces performed well in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) and domestic cricket as well.
Players like Rinku Singh, and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be representing the Indian team at the grand level. However, there are also some IPL stars who were expected to get a place in the squad but were shockingly ignored by the selection committee. On that note, let’s take a look at those 5 IPL stars who couldn’t make it to the Indian men’s squad for Asian Games 2023.
1. Shikhar Dhawan
Veteran Indian opening batter Shikhar Dhawan has not made any international appearance for a while now. However, despite performing well in the recently-concluded IPL 2023, the left-hander did not get a place in the Indian squad. Interestingly, there were some reports about Dhawan leading the team in Asian Games 2023.
2. Nitish Rana
The Delhi-based cricketer Nitish Rana has been consistently performing well in the cash-rich league but despite this, he failed to become a member of the national team. However, after his brilliant performance in IPL 2023, it was expected that Rana would be selected for the Asian Games 2023; but that did not happen.
3. Prithvi Shaw
The 23-year-old young opener Prithvi Shaw is not having a great time in his career. Shaw has been performing well in domestic cricket but when it comes to IPL, the youngster has been failing to produce any special performance due to this, he wasn’t selected in the Indian men’s squad.
4. Mohsin Khan
Lucknow Supergiants speedster Mohsin Khan played only 5 matches in IPL 2023 and picked up 3 wickets but his performance in the 15th edition was exceptional. Mohsin played 9 matches in IPL 2022 and picked up 14 wickets. But despite this, he didn’t get a chance to play for India and was also not selected for Asian Games 2023.
5. Tushar Deshpande
The talented speedster from Maharashtra Tushar Deshpande started playing in IPL in 2020 but he got recognition in the 16th edition while playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Deshpande picked up 21 wickets in 14 matches and helped his team to win the 5th IPL title but despite he didn’t get a spot in the Indian squad.
