Royal Challengers Bangalore has decided to part ways with its Director of Cricket, Mike Hesson, and head coach, Sanjay Bangar. The former joined the three-time finalists in August 2019. On the other hand, Bangar joined the team ahead of the 2022 season. He also worked as a batting coach for the Indian team for a few years.

On the other hand, Hesson was the head coach of New Zealand when current England Test coach, Brendon McCullum led the side. During their tenure, the team reached the playoffs in 2020, 2021, and 2022 and missed out in 2019 and 2023. They are said to have a great understanding with former India and RCB skipper Virat Kohli. As reported by ESPNcricinfo, the contract renewal is up in September every year. However, the Red Army seems to be eager to make changes.

“Their contract with RCB is still intact,” RCB said in a statement. “The team is still under the process of review. We will come back if any announcement on the changes in the team.”

Not to forget, they are searching for their ever-elusive IPL title. It will be interesting to see whether the team goes with a foreign coach or India. The same thing goes with the Director of Cricket post.

Andy Flower might replace Sanjay Bangar

Notably, former Zimbabwe international, Flower has been relieved of his coaching duties by the Lucknow Super Giants. He coached the team during both seasons (2022 and 2023) of its existence. The former Zimbabwe player has been replaced by former Australia opening batter and coach Justin Langer.

The latter coached his national side to their maiden T20 World Cup win in 2021. Apart from this, they managed to retain an Ashes series in England for the first time in 2019, after 2001. Flower might be a contender to join the three-time finalists. Apart from this, the Director of Cricket in the RCB side will be a critical position. After all, his job is to find the right talent for the right spot in the team.
