Zakir Hussain and Shankar Mahadevan shine in traditional attire at Grammy Awards 2024

The Grammy’s are one of the greatest events in entertainment where some of the best musicians come onto the scene. Many music maestros have gone on to win these iconic awards and take the music industry by storm. The year 2024 has been an amazing year for music as well, with Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift seeping the awards once again, proving to everyone why they are still one of the best female pop singers around. This year was also the year for Phoebe Bridgers who received the most award on the night for best alternative music album, best rock song, best rock performance and Best pop duo/ group performance.

This was also the moment when our Indian musicians got recognition on the global stage as well. Famous Tabla player Zakir Hussain and vocalist also received awards in this event. Shankar Mahadevan went on to win the award for best global music album for This Moment whereas Zakir Hussain won the best global music performance for Pashto which he composed with famous flautist Rakesh Chaurasia. This was a proud moment for every Indian to see their favourite musicians get the global recognition they deserve.

What made us proud was that the two exceptional musicians had chosen to embrace their culture by wearing ethnic outfits in a predominantly Western-based event. Zakir was seen wearing a white kurta which had a bit of fusion of colors in it whereas Shankar was wearing a black Kurta during the show. Both these individuals were looking dapper and suave in this traditional wear during the event. It was already great to see them win the award on the global stage, but it was also great to witness them embracing the Indian culture and still looking great during the event.

This is a proud moment for the Indian music industry to witness these talented musicians achieve this great feat and announce themselves on the global stage. There is only respect and appreciation for these two musicians, who have achieved something that very few people have managed to achieve. To see them in traditional wear and accept these awards in a crowd filled with Western influence was a great sight to witness by everyone present at the event. Let’s hope awards like these keep coming their way in the future as well.
