‘Yuzi bhai aap ab bas reels pe dhyan do’ – Fans abuzz as Yuzvendra Chahal gets dropped from India’s squad for Asia Cup 2023

The Indian Cricket Board on Monday, August 21 announced India’s 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The selection committee made some shocking decisions which left the fans shocked. However, the top 6 Asian teams will be clashing against each other in the tournament which is set to start on August 30.

Meanwhile, India’s veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal couldn’t make it to India’s squad and the selection committee decided to go with only 3 spin bowling options which are Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. Many fans didn’t like Chahal getting dropped from the squad and slammed the Indian Cricket Board.

The tournament will be jointly hosted by Sri Lanka and Pakistan, however, the Men in Blue will play all their matches in Sri Lanka and most of the pitches there are spin-friendly. Chahal’s exclusion from the squad can bring trouble for the Indian team as he is the most experienced Indian spinner currently.

Will Chahal make it to India’s ODI World Cup squad?

Apart from him, another veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin couldn’t become part of the squad. However, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who was present at the press conference with chief selector Ajit Agarkar for the squad announcement, said, “Doors are not closed for anyone including Ravi Ashwin, Chahal and Sundar for the World Cup”.

However, the bigger concern for the Indian team is the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 which will be hosted in India and we all know Chahal’s record in the Indian pitches. As he is not selected for the Asia Cup, it is expected that he won’t be there in the ODI World Cup squad as well.
