Team India might see a new face in India’s T20I captaincy as Hardik Pandya could be rested to manage the workload ahead of the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. Alongside Panya, there are reports of Shubman Gill rested for the series as well. If that does happen, Suryakumar Yadav, who is appointed the vice-captain of the team, could captain the side.

“Nothing is finalized but a lot will depend on Hardik’s physical fitness after the ODIs and T20Is in West Indies. There is a short gap between the games in West Indies and Ireland. With a World Cup coming up, one has to keep the workload issue in mind,” an Indian Cricket Board source told PTI. Team India are currently engaged in a multi-format tour of the West Indies. The two teams will contest in two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is in the ongoing tour.

Jasprit Bumrah could make his comeback in the Ireland series

The Ireland series will feature only three T20Is and given Suryakumar Yadav is the vice-captain of the T20 team, he is the natural choice to lead the team. The series is expected to give chances to a few youngsters in a second-string team. However, India’s pace ace Jasprit Bumrah is expected to make his much-awaited return in the said series. He has been bowling full-throttle in the nets of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and a low-pressure series like the tour of Ireland will be the ideal series to test out his match fitness and make a well-supervised return.

There has been another major update related to the Ireland series. It was earlier reported that VVS Laxman would be presiding over as Team India’s head coach for the series against Ireland and the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, China. Bumrah was closely monitored by VVS Laxman during his stay in the NCA. This would give Laxman a chance to watch him closely in a competitive environment following a long break. As far as Asian Games are concerned, the team for the same has already been made public and Ruturaj Gaikwad will be acting as the captain.
