The much-awaited India tour of West Indies finally kicked off on Wednesday, July 12 with the 1st Test of the 2-match Test series at Windsor Park in Dominica. The Test series also marked the beginning of India’s World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle. The selectors have moved towards the young and new faces for the Test series and made some new selections.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s talented opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad was also selected for the series but didn’t get a place in the playing XI. However, the right-hander turned waterboy and served drinks to Indian batters during the match. Many fans have appreciated the player while many trolled him and reminded him that Yashasvi Jaiswal got selected ahead of him.

There was banter on social media between Ruturaj and Shubman Gill’s fans during the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Once more, there was a conflict between the fan bases as Gill supporters began to claim that this was Ruturaj’s standing in international cricket. Fans of Ruturaj have responded to this by saying that it is acceptable to bring a water bottle and that Ruturaj’s future will be better.

I love Test cricket: Yashasvi Jaiswal

On the other hand, talking about Jaiswal, he made full use of the opportunity given to him and smashed a magnificent hundred in his debut Test match. After the conclusion of the 2nd day, Jaiswal talked about his knock and also thanked everyone who supported him throughout his journey.

“I think this is one of the emotional knock for me, it’s difficult to get opportunities in the Indian team, I would like to thank everyone, the supporters, team management and Rohit Bhai. The pitch is on the slower side and the outfield is very slow, it was difficult and challenging, and it was pretty hot and I wanted to keep doing it for my country, just play ball-by-ball and enjoy my cricket.

I love Test cricket, I like this challenge, and I enjoy the situation when the ball swings and seams. We have worked hard on everything, I’ve just gone out to express myself. Was an emotional moment (on his century), was just proud of me, and thankful for everyone, this is just a start and I want to do well going further,” Jaiswal was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
