In the second ODI between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz continues to take down the Green Brigade bowlers. The Blue Brigade is trailing by 0-1 as they lost the first game by more than 140 runs, chasing just a little more than 200 runs. Meanwhile, in this game, the Afghans won the toss and elected to bat first. The way they proved the decision right was magnificent.

The opening pair of Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran put together 227 runs for the first wicket. This is the second-highest opening partnership against Pakistan. The highest is 284 by David Warner and Travis Head in 2016. Meanwhile, coming from 56 all-out, it has been a magnificent performance from the Asian side. Both played steadily as they knew Pakistan’s bowling has been their strength but maintained the run rate between 4 to 4.5 per over.

Meanwhile, at the time of writing, Gurbaz has amassed 140 off 142 balls. After getting to his ODI hundred, the Kolkata Knight Riders player has accelerated well. He took down Haris Rauf for four fours in the 37th over. Notably, the latter took his maiden five-wicket haul in the previous game. On the other hand, Zadran scored 80 runs in 101 balls before getting out to Usama Mir.

At the time of writing, Afghanistan has amassed 237/1 in 42.1 overs. They are expected to get past 330 runs with former skipper Mohammad Nabi at the crease.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz was injured at one stage

The Islamabad United player in the PSL was attended by the physio twice. Despite the pain in his hand, he continues to bat at the time of writing. Apart from this, he has gone past Pakistan skipper Babar Azam‘s record of five ODI hundred in 25 innings. The Afghan opener has done it in only 23 innings.

Only the likes of Quinton de Kock (five hundred in 19 innings) and Imam-ul Haq (same record as De Kock) are ahead of Gurbaz.
