Pakistan and Afghanistan are clashing against each other in the 1st match of the 3-match ODI series at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota on Tuesday, August 22. The series also marked the beginning of the preparations for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 for both teams.

Meanwhile, Pakistan skipper and star batter Babar Azam, who was expected to score big in the first ODI, got out on duck by a brilliant delivery bowled by Afghanistan off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Many fans have reacted to Babar’s embarrassing dismissal and trolled him for his poor batting display.

Pakistan recently won a 2-match Test series against Sri Lanka and are trying to continue the winning momentum. He talked about the team’s right combination and said that they have few new players in the team. He said that most of the players in the team have played in different leagues but playing for Pakistan is a different feeling.

“We enter this series with good momentum following our Test series win here and we are eager to build on it. We have a few new faces on the side and I wish them good luck for the challenges ahead. Most of the boys have been playing cricket in different leagues, but when you don the Pakistan star, it is a different feeling altogether,” Babar was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.

“Tayyab Tahir had a good [Emerging Teams] Asia Cup and he performed well here in Sri Lanka and everyone saw how Saud Shakeel played Tests here. I am especially impressed by how Saud has transformed into a modern-day batter in such a quick time. This is a great sign for Pakistan cricket that he groomed himself according to the demands of the team, and whenever anyone does that, I get very happy,” he said.
