The upcoming Asia Cup 2023 will mark the comeback of two veteran Indian cricketers KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer as they are selected in India’s squad for the upcoming tournament. The Indian Cricket Board announced India’s squad on Monday, August 21 where multiple inclusions as well as some exclusions shocked many cricket fans.

However, what caught the most attention was veteran Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal getting no place in the squad. Chahal is undoubtedly one of the greatest limited-overs spinners in modern-day cricket and considering the tournament which will be played in spin-friendly pitches, Chahal presence will be sorely missed. Chahal recently reacted to his snub from the squad with a cryptic tweet. Many fans have reacted to it and wished him to make a comeback soon.

The chief selector of the Indian cricket team, Ajit Agarkar also talked about the omission of Chahal from the Asia Cup and said that both Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav have been brilliant in the past so someone had missed out and according to him, both spinners are currently ahead of Chahal.

“Axar Patel has done really well. He can bat too. Kuldeep Yadav has had a fantastic run to this point. So someone had to miss out. Kuldeep is currently a little ahead of him (Chahal),” Agarkar was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

India will miss Chahal’s experience in Asia Cup 2023

Chahal has played 72 ODI matches in his career and has taken 121 wickets so far which included 2 fifers. The Men in Blue will miss Chahal’s experience on the pitches where he has the ability to do wonders with the ball. However, as the decision has been made, India will look to win the tournament with their 17-member squad.

In the press conference, Agarkar revealed that the squad which is announced for the Asia Cup will be almost the same for the ODI World Cup as well which indicates that Chahal’s chances to play in the major world event are also slim.
