The stage was set for Stuart Broad on day four of the ongoing 5th Ashes Test at the Oval as he announced his decision of taking retirement from professional cricket after the end of play on day three. However, he was one of the overnight batters along with James Anderson as the home team finished day three with 389 runs on the board for nine wickets.

Broad was not out on two runs while Anderson was not out on eight runs. But, a video and some images went viral when Broad came out to bat on day four for the last time in Test. Australia’s players were seen giving a guard of honour to the veteran pacer while Anderson stayed back to let Broad enjoy the moment. Seeing those, fans shared their views on social media.

Stuart Broad remained not out on eight runs in his last Test innings

Meanwhile, Broad managed to hit a six against Mitchell Starc on the last delivery of the first over bowled on day five. However, it turned out to be his last ever ball faced in Test cricket as Anderson got out in the next over. Thus, he remained not out on eight runs and England set a 384-run target for the Aussies.

While speaking to the reporters during press conference after third day, Broad said: “I feel great, to be honest. I’ve probably been thinking for a couple of weeks and even up until last night, I was still just sat in my room, umming and ahhing, speaking to Mollie [King, his wife].”

“At half-eight, I just texted Stokesy saying: ‘Can I come and see you?’. I walked in, shook his hand and said: ‘That’s me, thanks for everything you’ve done for me’. I feel really great, and I feel even better that we’ve had a brilliant day today. I was a bit nervous this morning thinking that if we lose early wickets, I could feel a bit devastated,” he further added.
